The latest version of Nvidia Graphics driver for Linux which is Nvidia 331.67 has been released and is available for download. It comes with plenty of fixes and changes. This article will guide you to install Nvidia 331.67 in Ubuntu and Linux Mint systems.

Fixes

  • Added support for the following GPUs:
  • GeForce GT 705 GeForce GT 720 GeForce GTX 860M GeForce GTX 870M GeForce GTX 880M GeForce GTX TITAN Black
  • Fixed a bug that could lead to crashes when running Left 4 Dead 2 with threaded optimizations enabled.
  • Updated the makefile for the NVIDIA kernel module to work around a bug in older versions of GNU Make that prevented the NVIDIA kernel module from building correctly. This bug was fixed in version 3.81 of GNU Make.
  • Fixed a bug that causes some X clients to be disconnected from the X server when the screen is resized while RandR 1.4 display offloading is in use.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause display corruption when resuming from suspend on systems using RandR 1.4 display offloading with recent Linux kernels.
  • Added support for Tridelity SL stereo mode.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause nvidia-settings to crash or display incorrect information after switching virtual terminals while a color correction confirmation countdown was active.
  • Added a missing 32-bit compatibility library for libnvidia-fbc.so to the x86_64 Linux installer package.

Installation

  2. Is this a typo?
    "sudo apt-get install nvidia-319-updates-dev"
Why would you install version 319 and version 331?

    1. Hi Wilman,

As per the Release Notes published by NVidia for this release of the graphics driver i.e. 331.67, they have added support for the GeForce GT 705 GPU. Here is the link for you-
      http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/75019/en-us

So, these steps should work for you. All the best :)

    3. Technically, there have to be some differences between the two. But, the driver should work well for both of them. Just give it a try.

  4. Hi Mandar,
this driver works also for geforce 220M, as indicated in supported products section, right?
But why sudo apt-get install nvidia-331-updates-dev doesn't run?
I'm sorry for my brutal english ;)

    Thanks

    2. probably yesterday i got the syntax worng, today the command runs. but i've found another problem. the output of "sudo service lightdm stop" is "stop: Unknown instance:".
      I'm using Ubuntu 14.04lts

    3. I'm sorry but i've tried to install and use Nvidia 331.38 and it's ok to enhance the rendering with same programs, like PyMol, i've to use. But when i try to shutdown/restart the system, at first it asks me the ad password and than doesn't shutdown/restart but the monitor becomes black and the system continues to runs. at the end(after 3-2 h) i've to push the power button for 6sec and so the pc is shutdowm.
the command "sudo shutdown -h/-r now" gives the same effects.
how can i resolve this problem?

    4. When you run the command "sudo service lightdm stop", it shows you "stop: Unknown instance:". Immediately, run the command "sudo service lightdm status" and chek the output.

  5. This does not work with ASUS G750JM GTX860M, just tested it on a fresh install.

Still looking for drivers that do work :/

  6. so hopefully this doesn't sound too stupid, but my screen goes black after I run the sudo service lightdm stop command...soooo how do I complete the process? typing blindly? I'm running hdmi from my graphics card to a TV, are there other options for being able to see what I'm doing during this process?

  7. Well. This install killed my Ubuntu. Could not even start it in no lightdn mode. Ctl-Alt-F1 no longer worked. Had to re-image
