How To : Install/Upgrade to Linux Kernel 4.7-RC3 in Ubuntu/Linux Mint Systems

    The Linux Kernel 4.7-RC3 is now available for the users, announced Linus Torvalds. This Linux Kernel version comes with plenty of fixes and improvements. This article will guide you to install or upgrade to Linux Kernel 4.7-RC3 in your Ubuntu or Linux Mint system.


Installation

For 32-Bit Systems

Download the .deb packages.

$ wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700rc3_4.7.0-040700rc3.201606121131_all.deb

$ wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700rc3-generic_4.7.0-040700rc3.201606121131_i386.deb

$ wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/linux-image-4.7.0-040700rc3-generic_4.7.0-040700rc3.201606121131_i386.deb
Install them.

$ sudo dpkg -i 'linux-headers-4.7*.deb' 'linux-image-4.7*.deb'
Reboot the system.

sudo reboot

For 64-Bit Systems

Download the .deb packages.

$ wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700rc3_4.7.0-040700rc3.201606121131_all.deb

$ wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700rc3-generic_4.7.0-040700rc3.201606121131_amd64.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7-rc3-yakkety/linux-image-4.7.0-040700rc3-generic_4.7.0-040700rc3.201606121131_amd64.deb
Install them.

$ sudo dpkg -i 'linux-headers-4.7*.deb' 'linux-image-4.7*.deb'
Reboot the system.

sudo reboot

To uninstall,

sudo apt-get remove 'linux-headers-4.7*' 'linux-image-4.7*'

    wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700_4.7.0-040700.201608021801_all.deb

    Then install kernel 4.7 using command:

    wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-headers-4.7.0-040700-generic_4.7.0-040700.201608021801_i386.deb

    wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/linux-image-4.7.0-040700-generic_4.7.0-040700.201608021801_i386.deb

    Then install kernel 4.7 using command:

    sudo dpkg -i *.deb

    Finally update GRUB:

    sudo update-grub

    Then, reboot your system:

    sudo reboot

    To check the installed kernel which you're using:

    uname -r
